LMCHK Part I Exam Experience

Getting started... Passing this exam is a lot of hard work and by that I mean at least 8 hours of daily study,
for at least 4 months with a good medical background, I knew the target was hard and I also knew a right preparation on a right direction would lead me to success.

The preparation...

I started with the USMLE notes, but that was not enough for this exam. This exam tests you with wide range of medical knowledge in different depth. For example you can be simply asked about mechanism of action of clopidegrel or you will be given a x ray, like my question was a X ray pic showing bamboo spine and stem question was a young man with history of back pain but the option was not what is in your mind. They asked which of the following joint is first affected and in the option luckily there was sacro iliac joint. So by that i mean there is a variation in the standard of the question some are quite professional, some are straight forward. The key for this exam is mastering important topics very well; for example Infective endocarditis, ankylosing spondilytis, atrial fibrillation, stroke, myocardial infarction, are just few to name, these are like five star topic, now you must be thinking how I guessed, this exam is more practical based exam, so whatever you will encounter in real life scenario are frequently tested.

So the first step is knowing all the important and critical topic very well.

The second step is to memorize the buzz words. My stem question had pseudo pelgel huet anomaly as soon as i saw that i recognize that as being mylodysplastic syndrome, saves time actually

The third step is knowing rare conditions ,they love that, for example Mucopolysaccharidosis, von geirke disease storage other storage diseases.

The fourth step is knowing common and rare syndrome, down turner nonans neurofibromatosis being in the top list. Read some rare syndromes because for that the answer will be more straight forward, I got Frey syndrome in my exam as soon as I saw ‘sweating while eating’ I knew I got it right.

Saves time, so wide range of exposure is important.

Ultimately, hard work and dedication are keys to success. Go for it......
